Our Story

It all began on a very cold day in Dallas in December, 2013. Due to her anxiety, Christine had been knitting for awhile and had given scarves to everyone she knew, but there were still five scarves left. What would she do with them? Click on the link below to learn what happened next and how that day resulted in the birth of Spreading the Warmth in June 2014. From those five scarves, in its first ten years, over 8,000 handmade scarves have been distributed throughout the world.

We even have grown to include another chapter led by Trish and Don McKinney in Streetman, Texas. In addition to this, Elaine Murphy in Genesee, Colorado, has been our field representative for nine years and has done a fabulous job working with various social service agencies that give our scarves to the homeless as acts of warmth and kindness.
